The Trump administration has prioritized updating technology and boosting air traffic control recruitment. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed that the issue was specific to United’s operations and unrelated to the broader air traffic control system. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is in close contact with the systems operations team and has offered full support to help clear up the flight backlog. The disruption impacted a system called Unimatic, which houses information about each flight that is fed to other systems, such as those that calculate weight and balance and track flight times.
