Trump is set to meet Putin in Alaska to discuss the potential’swapping of territories’ between Russia and Ukraine.

Trump announced a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska next week, with potential peace talks between the Kremlin and Ukraine being discussed. Trump at the White House announced the location and the highly anticipated meeting on Truth Social. He elaborated on the potential peace deal with Russia and Ukraine after Putin presented the administration with a ceasefire proposal that involved Ukraine making territorial concessions. Trump said that they would get some back and swap some territories to the betterment of both countries.

Trump also mentioned that he thinks he could soon be hosting a similar event alongside Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. European leaders want to see peace, and President Putin and Zelensky want to see peace. Trump urged Zelensky to prepare to sign a ceasefire agreement.

Putin last was hosted in the United States by former President Obama in 2015, discussing Ukraine and Syria. Trump met Putin six times during his first term, including a joint press conference in 2018 in Finland. Putin and Biden met once during the last presidency, holding talks in Geneva in 2021. Trump had been weighing whether to meet with Putin and Zelensky in the coming weeks and raised the idea during a call with European allies. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt this week said Russia had expressed an interest in meeting with Trump.
