The CDC is believed to have been the target in the Atlanta shooting that resulted in the death of an officer.

A shooting near the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta has left one police officer dead. Multiple rounds were fired, both at law enforcement and potentially at the CDC. The incident occurred near the CDC campus and Emory University in Atlanta, with one DeKalb County police officer killed and another injured. Four bullet holes were found on the CDC campus walls. DeKalb County Police Department Chief Greg Padrick praised the deceased officer, David Rose, as “diligent in his duty to protect our community.” CDC director Susan Monarez applauded law enforcement officials’ timely response to the shooting, stating that the Roybal Campus remains on lockdown as authorities investigate the incident. The shooter, a white male, was found deceased at the scene with a gunshot wound. CNN reported that law enforcement is operating under the assumption that the shooter believed he was sick and blamed the illness on the COVID-19 vaccine. Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens expressed his support for the CDC and its employees, expressing their solidarity and efforts to bring resolve to the situation.
