First Lady Melania Trump has written a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin, expressing concerns about the plight of children during Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The letter highlights the importance of nurturing the next generation’s hope and the responsibility to sustain children beyond the comfort of a few. Since the start of the war in late February 2022, Russia has abducted thousands of Ukrainian children, forcibly transferring them to Russia, attempting to assign them Russian citizenship and have them attend schools in Russia. The United Nations hammered Russia in March for the suffering the children in Ukraine have endured due to the war. Melania Trump urged Putin to restore the innocence of these children and serve humanity itself. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that Moscow has been stonewalling talks on the return of Ukrainian children, and the Trump-Putin summit aims to reach a trilateral track for the return of children.
