Trump, Zelensky, and other European leaders projected a unified front, but some sticking points emerged, such as German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s argument that a ceasefire agreement was necessary for a follow-up meeting with Putin. Trump left open the possibility of U.S. forces being involved, but indicated Europe would take the lead on the initiative.
