Maryland Gov. Wes Moore (D) has expressed his opposition to President Trump’s deployment of National Guard troops in Washington, D.C., citing several reasons, including its unsustainable, unscalable, and unconstitutional nature. Moore believes that the deployment is disrespectful to the National Guard members, who have served in combat and are not trained for such a job. He also believes that the deployment serves as a distraction from the president’s disastrous economic policies, making life harder for everyday Americans.
Trump suggested that he could bring his takeover efforts to other Democratic-led cities, including Baltimore, which he called “out of control” and “crime-ridden.” He also criticized Moore for asking the president to “walk the streets with us,” suggesting he needs to reconsider his decision to give money for repairing the Francis Scott Key Bridge. Trump accused Moore of having a “very bad” record in handling crime in the state and offered to send troops to the state if needed.
Moore praised Baltimore’s decline in crime in recent years but acknowledged that there is still work to be done.
