At a press conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota, officials discussed the deadly shooting at a Minneapolis Catholic school, which killed two children and injured 18 others. The incident, which took place at Annunciation Catholic School, garnered support from politicians on both sides of the aisle. Minnesota Police Chief Brian O’Hara announced that an additional child had been shot during the shooting, which was not known at the time of the last briefing. The child was transported by private vehicle to a hospital outside the city, and the report was made to police after they had been treated and released.
An additional child was also injured by gunfire, and three shotgun shells were recovered, along with approximately 116 rifle rounds. One live round was recovered from a handgun that appeared to have malfunctioned as the shooter attempted to use it and became stuck in the chamber. Four search warrants were executed, one at the church and the others at residences believed to be associated with the shooter. Acting U.S. Attorney for the District of Minnesota Joseph Thompson stated that Westman, the suspect, left behind hundreds of pages of writings that described the shooter’s plan, mental state, and hate towards almost every group.
During the press conference, O’Hara stated that there is no evidence that Robin Westman illegally purchased firearms. The state of Minnesota is heartbroken and is working together to recover the victims and their families.
