Fernando Ramirez, a 29-year-old man from San Clemente, has been indicted for 37 felonies, including attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, after allegedly driving his car through a crowd of people outside a Los Angeles nightclub. The incident occurred outside the Vermont Hollywood nightclub, where Ramirez allegedly ran down 37 people, mostly women waiting to enter. The vehicle also traveled over a food vending cart and a valet stand. During the altercation, a man pulled a gun and shot Ramirez, and police are still searching for the suspect.
Ramirez has a lengthy criminal history, having been out of prison on parole at the time of the crash. He was convicted of felony battery from an attack on a man outside a Whole Foods in 2019 and sentenced to prison the following year. He has at least 11 criminal cases since 2014, including a gang-related charge in 2014 and unresolved pending drunk driving and domestic violence cases. If convicted on the charges related to the car ramming, Ramirez faces life in prison. The incident has shaken the community and raised concerns about the potential for mass casualty incidents.
