Maya Feller, MS, RD, CDN, founder of Brooklyn-based Maya Feller Nutrition, advises that when beef prices are high, there are alternative protein sources to consider. Greek yogurt, which typically has significantly more protein and fewer carbohydrates than regular yogurt, is an excellent choice. Feller suggests that canned tuna fish can have between 22 to 50 grams of protein per serving, depending on whether it’s packaged in oil or water. Chicken is another great alternative, with about 23 grams per three-ounce serving.

For plant-based individuals, eating a variety of plant proteins, such as beans, nuts, seeds, whole and ancient grains, helps meet protein needs without relying on animal proteins. Tofu, a protein-dense meat alternative made of fermented soy beans, is a great addition to the diet. By considering a holistic approach to protein intake, individuals can maintain their protein intake while avoiding the high prices of beef.
