Four individuals, including an off-duty officer, were killed in a shooting in Midtown, with the suspected gunman reportedly dying by suicide.

A man armed with a long gun and wearing body armor entered 345 Park Ave. in Manhattan, New York, and opened fire, killing off-duty NYPD officer Didarul Islam. Three other civilians were shot and killed before the shooter, identified as Las Vegas resident 27-year-old Shane Tamura, was found dead on the 33rd floor of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A fifth person was shot and remains in critical, but stable condition. The NYPD Police Commissioner, Jessica Tisch, posted on X that the scene has been contained and the lone shooter has been neutralized. The shooting occurred just before 6:30 p.m. at the building that contains offices for Blackstone and the NFL headquarters. Some employees inside the building have been advised that the threat “has been resolved,” but were asked to continue sheltering in place and only leave the building with a police escort. The officer was taken to Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, while at least one civilian was taken to Bellevue Hospital. Detectives are actively trying to determine why the suspect went to the 33rd floor. Officials are asking people to avoid areas near East 52nd Street due to police activity.
