Multiple medical groups have been barred from working on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s panel of vaccine advisers, following the firing of the original panel of independent experts by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. The American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, and the National Medical Association have signed a joint statement stating they have been excluded from the process of reviewing scientific evidence and informing vaccine recommendations. The HHS spokesperson stated that the panel will continue to include experts based on relevant experience and expertise, not because of their organization. The medical organizations expressed disappointment and alarm at the move, stating that removing their deep medical expertise from the panel’s work is irresponsible and dangerous to the nation’s health.
