The Department of Health Services (DHS) in Oconto County, Wisconsin, has confirmed the first measles cases in the country this year. Nine cases were confirmed in Oconto County, all from a common source during out-of-state travel. The Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene identified one case, while the other eight were confirmed based on exposure and symptoms. The DHS states that the overall risk to the public is low, as measles is a highly contagious airborne infection that can be spread through coughing and sneezing.
