GOP Representative Lawler expresses his belief that the Texas redistricting process is incorrect. Sac 922

Rep. Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.) has criticized Texas Republicans for forwarding a gerrymandered congressional map, which would result in five new GOP seats in the House ahead of next year’s midterm elections. Lawler compared the situation to the situations in Illinois and New Jersey, which have also been criticized for doing the same. He believes that having neutral districts across the country would serve the country better. Lawler plans to introduce legislation to “outright ban gerrymandering,” a term used to describe political manipulation in legislative mapmaking. He believes that this is fundamentally why Congress is broken, as most members are focused on primaries and not engaging in a general election. Texas Democrats have traveled strategically to Illinois, New York, and Massachusetts to deny Republicans a quorum as the GOP tries to pass new congressional lines. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton threatened to remove the Democrats as they went into day three of their trips.
