The information provided about the suspect Shane Devon Tamura, who was involved in the mass shooting incident in Midtown Manhattan.

Shane Devon Tamura, a 27-year-old man who recently lived in Las Vegas, has been identified as the man who entered a Midtown Manhattan office building wearing body armor and opened fire, killing four people with a high-powered rifle. Tamura worked as a surveillance department employee at the Horseshoe hotel and casino in Las Vegas. He completed high school in the Los Angeles area, where he was a competitive football player. Tamura attended Granada Hills Charter for a portion of his high school career but did not play professionally.

Investigators are analyzing a note found in Tamura’s pocket claiming he suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) and asking that his brain be studied. New York City Mayor Eric Adams said that they have reason to believe he was focused on the NFL agency that was located in the building. Tamura had two mental health crisis holds in his background in Nevada, one in 2022 and the other in 2024.

Tamura was arrested in September 2023 on suspicion of trespassing at the Red Rock Casino Resort & Spa in Las Vegas. He was arrested in November 2023 when the Clark County District Attorney declined to file a complaint. Investigators believe Tamura left his Las Vegas home on Saturday and began driving to New York City in a black BMW packed with guns and ammunition. He arrived around 6:30 p.m. at the 44-story office building at 345 Park Ave. in Midtown Manhattan and “spraying it with gunfire” and killing three people, including off-duty NYPD Officer Didarul Islam and a building security officer, identified by his union as Aland Etienne. Tamura was found dead from what is believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
