Shane Tamura, a man who drove across the country with a semiautomatic rifle and carried out a mass shooting in a Midtown Manhattan office building, killed four people and wounded a fifth, appeared to be targeting the NFL headquarters. Police sources told ABC News that Tamura opened fire on an NYPD officer, shot a woman who took cover, and then sprayed the lobby with gunfire. He left bullet holes in a large NFL crest on the wall by one of the elevator banks.

Tamura took an elevator to the 33rd floor, the offices of Rudin Management, where he shot another victim and then died by suicide. It appears as though he was going after the employees at the NFL. A fifth shooting victim, an NFL employee, was injured and taken to the hospital in critical condition. The office will remain closed through the end of next week.

Police investigating the deadly Midtown shooting found two notes from the gunman, one accusing the NFL of concealing the dangers to players’ brains from playing football in order to maximize profits. A second page mentioned CTE and blamed football. Tamura’s brain will be examined as part of his autopsy. His father, Terence Tamura, was an retired Los Angeles Police Department officer.

In Monday’s shooting, Tamura used an M4-style semiautomatic Palmetto State Armory PA-15 rifle equipped with a scope and a barrel flashlight. President Donald Trump has been briefed on the tragic shooting and expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the four people who were killed.
